Version History

Save and restore snapshots of your entire GDD — manual and auto-saves.

What it is

Whole-project snapshots capturing Basics, Characters, Items, Milestones, and Story chapters (including prose content). Manual snapshots get a label; auto-snapshots fire when sprints complete. Restore any version with a one-click rollback.

When to use it

  • Before a major refactor (renaming the protagonist, restructuring chapters).
  • Bookmarking the GDD state at the end of each sprint.
  • Undoing a destructive change someone made yesterday.
  • Comparing two points in time via the Compare diff.

How to use it

  1. 1Click "Save Version" — name it ("Pre-Combat-Refactor" / "v0.3 Pitch").
  2. 2Restore from any saved version via the kebab menu on the version row.
  3. 3Compare two versions with the Compare button — added/removed/modified counts per section.

Tips you should know

  • Free has no version history; Pro 20 manual snapshots; Team unlimited.
  • Auto-snapshots from sprint completion + restore-safety count toward the Pro cap.
  • Restoring fires its OWN auto-snapshot first ("Before restore to vX") — you can always undo an undo.
  • Chapter prose lives in ShareDB but snapshots DO capture it — restore brings back the full text, not just titles.
